The treatment takes 60 to 90 minutes. The follow-up is almost painless, you can go on with your professional activities the next day or the day after.
The product is a specific hyaluronic acid called Macrolane, produced by Qmed, a Swedish company who is world leader in inject able hyaluronic acids. Macrolane is biodegraded by the natural body functions in 24 to 36 months. The usual strategy is:
- A first important treatment with all the desired volume
- small touch-ups every 12 to 18 months if needed.

In the Practice
Before the treatment
A mammography if it is the breasts that are to be treated. Otherwise, no other examination if you are in good health. It is recommended to take Arnica 7 CH in homeopathy.

The treatment
The treatment Macrolane is a procedure that can take place in the office of your doctor, in one session and without hospitalization. The treatment consists of the injection of Macrolane gel with a special thin canula deep under the skin in order to add volume and firmness without leaving ugly scars. Generally, local anaesthesia is preferred but you can also have general anaesthesia.

After the treatment
With Macrolane, you can see the results immediately. And this without a long period of convalescence. As soon as the treatment is finished, you can return to your usual activities. In order to grant the best possible results however, it is recommended to avoid any activity that could exercise pressure on the treated areas such as massage, for 5 weeks. During this period it is also recommended to avois extreme temperatures (sauna, tanning studio). The appearing of redness, swelling, sensitivity or slight pain is normal. Should it persist, call your doctor.

Evolution with time
Hyaluronic acids as in the Macrolane gels are similar to a substance our own body produces in order to keep the skin and articulations smooth. This same substance is biodegraded by the body with the time. This process is very progressive and can not be noticed from day to day. The formula of Macrolane gives significant results that last more than 18 months. Of course this can vary individually.

Your questions about Macrolane

- What research has been carried out about Macrolane?
The perfect tolerance and efficiency of the NASHA gels have been proved by clinical tests. Another research about the use of Macrolane on physical depressions has showed its perfect tolerance and efficiency. No side-effects or bad reaction have ever been reported. Other studies take still place in Japan, where this technique is already strongly developed about the injections into the breasts.

Is Macrolane approved by the authorities?
Yes. Macrolane has received the authorization to wear the stamp CE in the European Union which means that it is in conformity with the obligations that go with the commercialization of medical products in Europe.

What is the difference between Macrolane and Restylane?
Both products are NASHA gels but of different densities and different indications. Restylane gel is indicated for the face and light, superficial treatments. Macrolane gel is much denser and thicker and has been specially developed for the body where the renewal of volume is much more important.

What is the difference between Macrolane and fat injections?
It is possible to transplant your own fat from one area of your body to another. This operation needs two surgical procedures: one is to aspire the fat and a second one to inject it. This takes a lot of time and is quite traumatizing. The advantage is that your immune system will not reject your own fat.
As Macrolane is based on a substance similar to one that the body produces naturally, it is also biocompatible. The advantage of the treatment with Macrolane is that there is no need to aspire fat from your body. This is particularly important if you don't possess enough fat for a transplant.

What are the advantages of Macrolane compared to other synthetic filler products on the market?
To add volume, other synthetic filler products are used which are based on other polymeres than hyalunoric acids. These fillers are not absorbed by the body and are difficult to remove after the injections. As the body biodegrades Macrolane there has never been signalled an allergic reaction or a rejection. Macrolane is biodegraded by the body by natural physical processes.

How long do the results last?
The effect of Macrolane is not permanent. The body biodegrades the injected gel progressively with the time. Normally, the result lasts at least 2 years.

If Macrolane disappears little by little, how can one keep a satisfying aesthetic result?
